About Ann MacDonald
MA, MM, LMHCA, SEP (Somatic Experiencing Practitioner)
I obtained my Master’s Degree in Psychology/Counseling from LIOS/Saybrook University. In 2013, I became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, studying under Steve Hoskinson and Peter Levine. I received additional certification in somatic attachment re-patterning (DARe) with Dr. Diane Poole Heller. I continue to be inspired by the profound changes that can be achieved through SE work to raise the quality, resiliency, and vitality of one’s life.
Thirty years of professionally cultivated skills as a vocal /choral teacher have enabled me to track the subtle changes in breath, vocal prosody and motor movements in an individual, all key components of somatic therapeutic work. My training as a meditation teacher and my meditation practice continue to support the cultivation of greater mindfulness and presence into all aspects of my life.
I bring my listening and observational skills to each session, combined with a genuine care and compassion for your well-being. In addition to the SE techniques used in sessions, I will weave traditional psychotherapy methods into our work when needed. I love working with children, youth, adults, couples and families.
In addition to my therapeutic practice, I am an avid amateur nature photographer (I had fun taking most of the photos for this website! ) and I have an ongoing meditation/sound yoga practice. I look forward to talking with you about how I can support your healing work!
